Draft Regeneration Strategy

What kind of future do you want to see for your part of the Isle of Wight and the Island as a whole?

The Isle of Wight Council has started a major regeneration programme to help create more jobs, better housing and an even better quality of life for all residents of the Isle of Wight. In order to help inform the priorities for regeneration across the Island we have been having an Island conversation called “The Wight We Want”. These ongoing conversations will help us to understand more about what our residents want to see in place for future generations of the Island over the next 10 years and beyond.

This will then be reflected in the development of a Regeneration Strategy for the Isle of Wight. This draft strategy is a consultation document and feedback from stakeholders is welcomed. We have asked a series of questions throughout the document and on the online survey, which are intended to suggest areas which you might wish to comment on, but please feel free to tell us anything else you think we need to consider before finalising the regeneration strategy for the Island.

Read the document below or download the draft strategy here.

The full consultation ran from 19 July 2018 to 12 October 2018, but if you still have comments or queries, you can email them to us at any time.

Read the document above or download the draft strategy here.

We are also setting up a ‘Residents Panel’ to both continue this conversation and to engage our community in future research and consultation. If you would like to be involved please email us on regeneration@iow.gov.uk with ‘Residents Panel’ in the title.

Newport Place Plan: Shaping Newport

Between November 2017 and April 2018, the Shaping Newport project, a  collaboration between the Isle of Wight Council, Newport Parish Council and Newport Business Association, set out to ask the people of the county town for their experiences and opinions of the place, its positives and negatives. See the report here.

2017 initial consultation

We invited Islanders to complete a survey over summer 2017 and  held a series of workshops across the Island to reflect back the results of the survey and further understand what makes parts of the Island more or less successful.

The results from the first surveys are available to download and read Area Workshop feedback analysis (PDF 28 Pages, 7mb). Or view below:
